Eyesight protection is something that must be taken seriously. There many things that can be done, startinhg with the avoidance of products known to be problematic. An example are ready to wear glasses sold by itinerant vendors.As in many cases the problem here is the use of products outside their specifications.

Ready to wear glasses are for momentary use eg to read a map in the car or to read the menu in a restaurant. It must be stressed that ready to wear glasses  are not corrective  glasses but magnifying lenses placed on a frame. With glasses like these vision is possible because they magnify the image not because they make it sharper as the ophthalmolofical lenses in regular glasses do. Long term use of ready to wear glasses can have various side effects on the wearer’s eyesight. Corresponding problems exist with cheap sunglasses .

     For glasses to operate correctly the following must be observed:

1. Lenses must have their optical centers correctly placed. When the optician assembles a pair of glasses it makes sure, when the lenses are placed on the frame, to  align the optical center of the lens with the axis of the pupil of the eye of the wearer. If the optical centers are misalligned -even for a few millimetres – then the wearer will feel like looking through a prism and the brain will instruct the eyes to adjust. Long term adjustment may result in dizziness,  migraines and a feeling of “weight” in the eyes.
2. The optical power of the lenses must be precise and uniform on the whole of the lens’s surface. There must be no variations on the lens’s surface. 
3. The lenses must have the necessary light transmission level for correct vision. This way there are no reflections or false images that make vision difficult.
4. Optical lensed must be checked for breakage resistant and be heat resistant .
5. Glasses must offer protection from UV radiation.
   
6. The frames must be made with high quality materials and be of the correct dimensions.
   

The best possible results are obtained using bespoke products. The optician measures precisely the various parameters and either adapts something already in existence or orders a completeley new one. The difference in optical performance is great. This is one our specialties.
